Plain-language summary of how Vela handles your health data. Your identity is never sold. Research contribution is always your choice.
Vela uses your health and behavioral data for one primary purpose: to generate your personalized morning brief and the intelligence models that power it. That processing happens on secure servers and is tied to your account alone.
Vela's sister company, Vela Data Sciences, conducts and supports health research — for example, understanding how people actually use GLP-1 medications in the real world. If, and only if, you give explicit consent, a de-identified version of certain data may contribute to that research. This is entirely separate from running the app, and the app works fully whether or not you participate.
Before any data is used for research, your name, email, and account identifiers are stripped and replaced with a random research code. Data is aggregated, and any pattern small enough to risk identifying an individual is suppressed. Researchers never receive data that points back to you.
Consent is granular — you can allow some categories and not others, and change your mind anytime in Settings:
| Category | What it covers | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Nutrition & behavior | Food logs, fasting, and activity patterns | Off |
| Protocols | GLP-1, peptide, and medication tracking, including side effects | Off |
| Labs | Lab results you choose to enter | Off |
| Biometrics | De-identified HRV, sleep, and recovery data, for research only | Off |
Every category defaults to off. Nothing is contributed unless you turn it on. Withdraw a category and future contribution stops.
Vela's full Terms of Service — including subscription terms, the 7-day Apple introductory-offer trial, coach program terms (including the Founding Coach offer), and acceptable-use provisions — are being finalized with counsel and will be posted here before launch.
